Shot in Hungary over the summer/autumn of 2007, The Secret of Moonacre is based on the popular classic book The Little White Horse. Written in 1946 by Elizabeth Goudge and the winner of the prestigious Carnegie Medal for children’s literature, The Little White Horse has been a much-loved English classic for over 50 years.  J.K. Rowling, creator of Harry Potter, has been quoted in numerous media as having adored the book as a child and said The Little White Horse fed her creative spirit and acted as inspiration for some of Harry’s adventures.

Synopsis

Set in the 1870s, the story follows Maria Merryweather, a 13-year-old orphan, on her journey to the mysterious Moonacre Manor.  There she finds herself in a crumbling house of secrets and mystery in a world caught up in time.  Maria must accept her destiny as a Moon Princess and unearth the secrets of the past to break the lingering curse that has divided her family for generations.  Can Maria overcome her stubborn pride in time to save the valley from the deadly curse and find the love of a family she never dreamed possible?
