Director, The Underdog's
Tale

Ross says he liked The Underdog's Tale script because it made him
laugh out loud: "Jim Loftus and Jon Terry have created a wonderful and unique central character. Poor Eric is so smart and charming he could run something
as complex as the United Nations if he could just overcome one or two inner demons. Despite the occasional slap
in the face from reality, Eric considers he is perfect in a corrupt world ."
When we cast Oliver Torr and Matt Zeremes as Eric and Dougie we created extra scenes to increase their screen time together. Matt and Ollie have great chemistry
- they've been friends and colleagues since drama school at QUT. They were hilarious on the set - and the real challenge
was to get all their ad-libbing on screen. Sophie Cleary who plays Louise is also a great improviser.
One of the the best scenes in the pic is when Eric has to convince Louise that he is only feigning mental illness so
he can receive a pension. It's terrific to watch Eric go from this point to convince Louise that they should go out on a dinner
date - all in the matter of minutes.
The Underdog's Tale does have a gross out side - yes, the humour of unruly bodily functions! - but Jim and Jon have written a script in which
the high side of life and the low are in constant collision which I think is always the great stuff of comedy."
